TOMMY HILFIGER: THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE FASHION WORLD
The South Street Seaport was turned into a public festival with arcade games, a 40-foot Ferris wheel and cotton candy at the New York Fashion Week which held in September this year.
Tommy Hilfiger, the master mind behind the festival collaborated with model Gigi Hadid to create a ‘see now, buy now’ collection which was unveiled on a ‘Tommy Pier’ runway to over 1000 excited fans. Their excitement was felt on social media with over 1 billion impressions from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The American fashion designer, Hilfiger told Fast Company “the whole idea is that through social media, you really have the opportunity to keep your brand young”. He believes that the strategies that launched the company into great success needs to be revisited for this digital age.
He focuses on expanding the brand globally but this time around, he will be doing it judiciously and cautiously thanks to a lesson he learned in the 90’s. “We learned that growing quickly is not healthy for the brand”. He stated.

Lagos state is not called the city of opportunities for nothing. She host the highest number of events in the country on a yearly basis. Fashion shows contribute a large part in making Lagos an event venue.
The Offodile sisters have added to Lagos population. Ogo and Chichi Offodile are bent of making a mighty name in the Nigerian fashion industry leaving their careers as technology consultants a foreign country behind.
These sisters have decided to team up and wow Africans especially Nigerians with their fashion brand. The amazing sisters were photographed as they cat walked in Milan and Paris at the Spring 2017 fashion show. They have returned to Nigeria to add more colour and glamour on Nigeria fashion runways.
In an interview with Vogue.com, the duo mentioned that the closet of a fashionable Lagos woman is a mixture of traditional African and western wares.
Personality theorists believe that our personalities influence our sense of style but these sisters have proved scientists wrong. Chichi who is extroverted and vibrant by nature is attracted to subtle wears while Ogo, the subtle and introverted one is attracted to experimental and outgoing wears.
Moving into the fashion industry has always been a big dream for the sisters. The decision to step into the fashion world is to deliver on a perspective they are passionate about, make remarkable contributions in the fashion industry in Africa and lastly, to fill an identified gap.
“This is a way to contribute to our society” Chichi stated.

BRIEF HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN
The ancient festival of Samhain was a time people when people would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off wandering ghosts. Pope Gregory III in the eighth century declared Nov 1 as a day to honour all martyrs and saints. The holiday ‘All Saints’ Day’ incorporated a number of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before Nov 1 was named initially named ‘All Hallows’ Eve and was later changed to Halloween.
Today, for nations that observe this holiday, Halloween is perceived as a community- based event which is characterized by child-like and friendly activities such as trick or treating. For Halloween lovers, it is a perfect way to usher in the cold winter season with fun, gatherings and crazy costumes.
