TOMMY HILFIGER: THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE FASHION WORLD
The South Street Seaport was turned into a public festival
with arcade games, a 40-foot Ferris wheel and cotton candy at the New York
Fashion Week which held in September this year.
Tommy Hilfiger, the master mind behind the festival
collaborated with model Gigi Hadid to create a ‘see now, buy now’ collection
which was unveiled on a ‘Tommy Pier’ runway to over 1000 excited fans. Their
excitement was felt on social media with over 1 billion impressions from Facebook,
Twitter and Instagram.
The American fashion designer, Hilfiger told Fast Company “the
whole idea is that through social media, you really have the opportunity to
keep your brand young”. He believes that the strategies that launched the
company into great success needs to be revisited for this digital age.
He focuses on expanding the brand globally but this time
around, he will be doing it judiciously and cautiously thanks to a lesson he
learned in the 90’s. “We learned that growing quickly is not healthy for the
brand”. He stated.
