FASHION: THE NEW CRUDE OIL
It is foreseen that in the next 10 years, the fashion
industry globally will double its’revenue; generating up to $5 trillion annually.
This analysis was given by African Development Bank (AfBD)
in collaboration with the Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2016 during the
Fashionmic and exhibition conference held last week.
Though the giant of Africa, Nigeria is not listed in the top
10 apparel exporting countries. According to reports from Euromonitor
international, the fashion industry (clothing and footwear) in the sub-Saharan
is estimated to worth $31 trillion dollars.
Geraldine Frader-Moleketi the Vice-President and special Envoy
on Gender told the audience at the LFDW 2016 that the banking industry is ready
to support and promote the fashion industry in Nigeria which she stated is a
multi-million dollar industry if properly harnessed.
She explained that the fashion industry though at it infant
stage currently is growing due to the rising interest of Africans in their
cultural traditions and rich craftsmanship.
She is of the opinion that the fashion industry to a high
degree holds the potential to effect change, motivate women and youthS to high
positions while advancing the economic.
It is time for Nigeria to wake up and turn some of her focus
from the oil industry to the fashion industry.

The producer of the award winning movie 'The meeting', was was photographed last weekend wearing an ankra cold shoulder blouse with a pair of black flare trousers, a cuff bracelet while she let her hair fall.
The rule when wearing anything flare or puffy is to keep the other piece of clothing slim and fitted. She also did it wrong with her hair do. The hair is to be styled up, packed behind or short when wearing anything off-shoulder. The idea behind the design, is to expose the shoulders; giving you a feminine look.
I guess she was aiming for a weekend casual look, but she did it wrong this time.
